About
Why this site exists
Most UK mortgage content online is written either by lenders trying to sell you their products, or by comparison sites paid to push the highest-commission deals. Independent, plain-English help is hard to find — and when you can find it, it tends to be deep inside paywalled magazines or hidden in 100-page government PDFs.
We started [UK Mortgage Guide] in 2024 to fill that gap. Every article is written to answer one specific question that a real first-time buyer or remortgagor would ask, in plain British English, with the maths shown.

How we research
Every article goes through three stages before publication:
- Primary research — direct review of HMRC, FCA, gov.uk, Bank of England and Land Registry source documents. Where rules change quarterly (stamp duty, LISA limits, base rate), we cite the date and source.
- Lender market scan — we use [Moneyfacts / Defaqto / equivalent industry data feeds] to verify rate ranges and product availability claims.
- Practitioner review — pillar guides are reviewed by an FCA-regulated mortgage adviser before publication. Reviewer name and FCA reference are listed at the bottom of the article.
Read our full Editorial Standards for the standards every piece must meet before publication.
How we make money
We're funded entirely by affiliate commissions from a small number of mortgage brokers and credit reference agencies we'd recommend regardless of commission — primarily Habito, Mojo Mortgages, L&C, and Experian.
We earn a small commission when a reader clicks through and signs up. We do not earn anything per article view, per email signup, or from any third-party advertising. We do not run display advertising on the site. We do not accept sponsored content.
This commission funds the site and pays our writers. It does not influence which products or providers we recommend. Editorial recommendations are made before any affiliate decision and are reviewed quarterly. If a recommendation changes, we update articles and explain why.
→ Read our full Affiliate Disclosure for the legal detail.
What we don't do
- We don't give regulated mortgage advice. We're a publisher. For personalised advice tailored to your circumstances, speak to an FCA-regulated mortgage adviser. Many of the brokers we link to provide free advice.
- We don't sell your data. Your email address goes into ConvertKit (our email provider), used only to send the welcome sequence and occasional updates. You can unsubscribe with one click.
- We don't run paid display advertising.
- We don't accept guest posts in exchange for backlinks or payment.
Our editorial promise
- Every article is original, written by a named human being. No AI-generated copy is published.
- Every fact has a source. Every number has a date.
- Every commercial recommendation is disclosed.
- Every article is updated when rules change.
- Comments are closed because mortgage advice from strangers is not safe — but we read every email reply to our newsletter.
